A study of the participation of the local Turkic population in the socio-political processes taking place in the Democratic Republic of Georgia, which declared its independence on May 26, 1918 and was able to continue its existence for only 33 months, has major importance. Turkic intellectuals living in Tiflis actively participated in those processes. One such intellectual was a prominent literary scholar-scientist, critic, and translator - Aziz Sharif (Abdulaziz Sharifov, Aziz Kurbanali oghlu Sharifzadeh),
At the same time, Aziz Sharif was elected as a deputy to Georgia's first parliament and appointed as the head of the Borchali district's school department. In February 1919, due to the formation of the new parliament, his mandate as a deputy ended. In June 1919, A. Sharif, who took part in the elections to the local self-governing bodies of Borchali district, was elected district glasni (deputy) from Borchali district on the single list of the Social-Democratic Party of Georgia and "Hummat" organization. At the same time, he was one of the five members of the Borchali local self-government department and headed the public education, medical-sanitary, and veterinary departments of the department.
At the first congress of the Georgian "Hummat" Social-Democratic Party (Mensheviks), held on December 16, 1919 in the Katerinenfeld German colony of Borchali district, A. Sharif was elected the chairman of the central committee of the said party.
The paper examines the socio-political activities of Aziz Sharif as a member of the Georgian Parliament and a member of Borchali district, chairman of the central committee of the Social-Democratic Party of Georgia "Hummat" in the Democratic Republic of Georgia, which existed in 1918–1921.
