In recent years, academic research on Turkish culture and civilization in Iran has gained significant momentum. The discovery of new findings related to Turkish cultural heritage in the region has accelerated, with a notable increase in the identification and examination of Turkish manuscript works. The Turkish manuscript Kahramân-nâme, stands out as a significant recent discovery.
The language of this Kahramân-nâme is the literary form of Azerbaijani Turkish used in the 18th century. As such, the manuscript serves as an invaluable resource for understanding the historical development of Azerbaijani Turkish and the transmission of oral culture into written sources. Furthermore, the work’s literary style and rich vocabulary reflect the grammatical structure, lexical wealth, and aesthetic sensibilities of 18th-century Azerbaijani Turkish, shedding light on the cultural and social dynamics of the period.
This study aims to introduce the aforementioned work and provide a detailed analysis, supported by examples, of the proverbs written in the period’s Azerbaijani Turkish found within the manuscript.
