The Avars was the society feared by other states and communities since the first day they appeared in Europe because they aroused fear in Europe after Attila who was the leader of the European Huns, and they were a nomadic tribe like them. Owing to being a nomadic tribe, the ethnic origin of the Avars was also a matter of curiosity for the writers of the period. From the moment they came to the Europe, they attracted the attention of the Byzantine Empire in terms of their attacks and sieges to this region. For this reason, bilateral relations occurred, especially between the Byzantine Empire and the Avars. Thus, the emergence of Avars in Europe and their relations with the Byzantine Empire will be discussed.
